Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Statement
The Centre of Genomics and Policy (CGP) at McGill University is situated on the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe nations, a place which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples. The CGP gratefully acknowledges these nations as the traditional custodians of the land and water on which it is located.
We promote and value the diversity in our community that includes but is not limited to race, ethnicity, national origin, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, ability, sex characteristics, socio-economic status, and religion. As the CGP employs and trains a very diverse group of people (with colleagues identifying with 14 different countries), we are committed to creating an inclusive environment that meaningfully and effectively brings together perspectives from all our students, faculty, staff, collaborators, and members of the community. Respect for human dignity and equity is at the center of our research and teaching. Our effort to meet this commitment is an ongoing process and we will remain invested in hearing about new ways and ideas for advancing equity, diversity and inclusion.
The CGP values the contributions made by members of historically marginalized groups They are inextricable from our commitment to academic excellence and rigor. We welcome and encourage applicants from racialized and ethnic minority groups, Indigenous people, women, people with disabilities, people who identify as LGBTQ2SAI+, as well as all qualified candidates with the skills and knowledge to engage productively with diverse communities.
The CGP further recognizes and fairly considers the impact of leaves (e.g., family care or health related) that may contribute to career interruptions or slowdowns. Candidates are encouraged to signal any leave that affected productivity, or that may have influenced their career path. This information will be considered to ensure the equitable assessment of the candidate’s record.
